I also think that you can only use an engine that was in that model car, IE. you cant use an A14 because they came out in utes and put it in your coupe.

still not convinced you cant, dont mean to be stubborn but im gonna get to the bottom of this. i ran into a guy two days ago who was rallying a TE cortina, and had just bought a corolla rally car and i had my 1200 there and we had a quick chat and he commented that "oh thats right you guys are allowed to put a 14-A (how he said it) in thoose things arnt ya" plus my brother in law tells me about guys that rallyed 1200's with them and he had no connection with these guys hed just walk up to them at a rally and say what motor are you running and they would openly admit an a-14 so there obviously not doing it on the dodge, anyway whatever it takes to get to the bottom of this im gonna do it cause im bloody sure its allowed

p.s. im a little worried i might offend one of you guys here so i just want to clear up that i dont intend to offend anyone or sound like a prick on this matter

Nah your alright 1200rc, I know its hard trying not to sound argumentative or anything. Its all good.

Now, you could be onto something there with those other rally guys. I will be keenly awaiting any news from the CAMS guys but as we have said before they can be a bunch of pricks.

Agr012 and anyone else interested, heres the ad for the coupe for sale down here:

DATSUN 1200 COUPE

Full welded 8 point steel cage, Seam Welded body, Never Rolled - no dents, Stanza front end, SSS option 3, 5 speed gearbox (1.5 to 1 OD 5th), 2pac paint (white), 1559cc Fuel Injected (Quad throttle bodies) Current motor has never competed in a rally (Just had new pistons, rings, brg's, hone Etc. 100Km old), Tuned for running Optimax, Pintara disks and calipers all round, Welded 4.875 Diff., 8 Hotwire mags, 4 Steel Wheels, 6 New RE46 tyres, Heaps of spare panels, glass, engine bits, gearbox bits, tyres, Parts, etc., Winner on 1 Club series outright and 4 series class wins out of six years. Well known car in Tas.

Im not sure if the car has or hasnt been sold, but the ad is no longer on www.rally.com.au

He is asking $5500, a bargain in my book. Alas, I cant afford it!

Only things that make me think its an A14 is the capacity (1559cc) and that in another part of the ad that says ENGINE NUMBER its got A14 typed in.

When I get a chance I will email the owner for some further details and some info on me getting started in rallying.

Cheers,
Simon

The A12 /14 debate has been going for a while now and I think I might be able to clear a few things up.The B110 was never homologated to my knowledge with the A14. The confusion lies with the 1400GX which has the L14 fitted. My car was built to race here and ran as an A14 because the authorities here never realised the Jap market cars had OHCs. Hence I own a very rare "factory" A14GX that was built for our local Nismo agent, he apparently had several cars built but I can't find any others yet!! He also had 1600 & 2 litre OHC 120ys and Sunnys built as well. Back in the 70s it seems to have been fairly easy to fool the officials. The largest homologated capacity for a B110 is 1298cc which is what Datsun set it at years ago.

nizmo, yeah my friends were trying to get me to put a n/a sr20 in to her but i cant be bothered with the fabrication and the tightness of the fit, so a ca18t was going to be the way. now i need to be sure its going to be strong and easy to fix as i need to travel long distances so the hot a15 stays ,ive now got a 5 speed in her to keep the revs down on the highway which make her a lot more plesent to drive. the motor pulls it hard enough for me at the moment so im just going to enjoy it .

Thanks stirlingmac, I was sure about the whole A series in 1200 thing. Do you have any homolagation papers for the 1200, of any type (wagon, sedan, coupe, ute)?
I'd be really interested to see them if you did.
