Anyone know if this heater would run properly with an 80 amp alternator???

Its light and made for kit cars eliminating any water from engine.

Hi, watts= volts x amps. so your alternator is rated at 80a x 12v = 960watts. so it should be ok. but make sure your wiring will cope..

That's cool!

I'm told by the electric car people that you can also buy an electric heater element that fits in the space of a stock heater core. This works with the existing fan.

that heater looks the goods... Those element heaters would heat the cabin up pretty damn quick...

Jaycar sell 150 watt units for about $50.

However i am in the process of fitting two air heaters from an ea falcon to my ute. They are about the size of a cigatette packet and have three settings. 6A, 17A and somewhere above 30A. Some fabricating will be required however it will all fit into the 1200 housing

And i thought that everyone wanted to maximise performance, not nobble it.

The greater the electrical drain to run these heaters, the greater the LOAD on the altenator, & guess what makes the altenator turn. Right,...your engine. It takes power from your engine to drive the electric heater.
How much power? I don't know, but with your engine idling, flick your lights on & switch to high beam. Notice how much the revs drop. They will drop proportionately more as the electrical load rises. Water heating is FREE as far as the engine is concerned. The greater the load that an engine carries, from any source, like aircon, the more fuel it uses to deliver a specific performance.
Free sounds like the right price to me

The exercise for me is to remove the friggen heavy 1k heater to save weight and clear out the engine bay or extra hoses.
Todays newer design alternators have higher amperage for less resistance, relays help as well and if you run the new blue type lights you save amps as well as gain whiter headlights (thats what they claim on the pack anyway) due to this gas needing less current to produce this extra white blue light.
This heater from the uk is only 2.4lbs.

Let us know how it turns out for ya slats.

Is the weight of the heater enough to make a measurable diference to performance?
Is this a streeter, or a racer?

If a racer, then....
It matters not, how much of an improvement the new, high output altenators are, 300 watts is an electrical load of 21.75 amps at 13.8 volts. This electrical load is seen by the engine as a physical, mechanical load. Hot water through a heater offers no measureable load at all, but of course, you need to warm up your engine to enjoy the benefits.

If a streeter,...
Then again, if it is really really cold, you should really run your engine at a fast idle for a few minutes just to take the chill from its bones, before you start driving. This is often enough to get "some" warmth from the heater. Drive it steady* untill it is at operating temp, & your day will be filled with joy.

[*You drive it steady when really cold to avoid lube problems in the gearbox & diff too.]

Whadda ya trying to do. At 980 watts the load is over 71 amps at 13.8 volts. That should make enough heat to just about bake bread.

Just trying to go as light and clean as possible with my tube frame chop top and smooth rotot engine.
Disregard the 3 heater thing it was just a joke. All you need is one of these suckers especially when Im going to run perspex motorbike half dome screens.
refer "chop top 1000" for an example.

found out another bit of info for those who bag EWP

"A "traditional" pump sucks up a remarkable amount of power and is chronically inefficient since it is permanently engaged and must work at all speed ranges, from idle to "red line". At maximum revs a modern 2 litre engine is wasting almost 8 bhp just driving the water pump. Imagine you could turn the pump on and off as needed or better still adapt its speed and power consumption to suit the conditions. This is where Davies Craig comes into the equation: their Electric Water Pump is designed and manufactured in Australia and simply replaces your old belt driven device. An electronic controller not only monitors the temperature of the coolant and switches the pump on and off but also adjusts its speed to match demand. And more importantly, the Electric Water Pump drains only 80 watts, or about 0.1 bhp. This means that the average car will inevitably be much more efficient to run. In a typical example supplied by Davies Craig, fuel consumption for a 2.7 Ltr. Engine drops from 9.0 to 8.55 Ltr/100k. a fuel saving of about 5 percent."
