I'm probably going to be picking up a 72 1200 2 door sedan for $200 American. It runs and is still regularly driven. It has almost 325,000 miles on it and the engine has only had a valve job. There is a 510 in my city with a carberated 13B. I was wondering how easy it is to do this swap into a 1200. Is it expensive, inexpensive, too much work, easy? Also, roughly how much is something like this going to run me. The car used to be my mom's so i might just end up restoring it to stock for her. But the thought of a low 13 second, super sleeper may be too much to pass up on. Thanks

you'll need to get an RX3/ FB RX7 crossmember and retrofit it into place over your swaybar mounts. you'll also need a custom gearbox crossmember, exhaust and tailshaft. the clutch is hyrdraulic on the rotary box, and the 1200 is cable operated. then you'll find the brakes need 'more', and you'll get pissed off at diff's snapping every roundabout. you'll also want to get a hold of a rotary vehicle's radiator, the RX4 is the best of the lot, but the FB RX7 is plenty big. and for god's sake, don't forget the small little oil cooler under the radiator.

other than that, with those crossmember pieces, it's a fairly straightforward conversion - and the ease of screwing power out of a rotor makes the conversion very appealing.

good luck.

Not in the US.

All of our 1200s got hydraulic clutches.

Welcome aboard. You will find much of interest in this forum.
Can we get you to fill out some of your details so that we have some idea of where you live. Already someone has assumed that your car is right drive, but perhaps not.

Knowing where you are allows us to tailor more appropriate, & localised responses.

Chris

Sorry about that. I am an American and I live in Southern California. So therefore the car is a left hand drive. As you probably know we have quite a "rice burner" scene around here. For a long time I've wanted to bring something to the scene that is a little different. I want to keep the car pretty much stock looking. But at the same time would like to make a fairly formidable sleeper out of it.There is a 510 around here that has a carberated 13b and it runs 13's. I don't nessisarily want a 13b. I just want something that will allow for a bit more power (or a lot ). Also, on a side note: I noticed you s/n is dodgeman. Is this because of an affinity for the brand?
