Are you talking about a gen-u-ine "Detroit Locker", or the much more common "limited slip" diferential? The limited slip diff is a good thing, but the locker is death on wheels for the unwary, & a pain for street use at any time.
Use a locker for drag racing & some off road applications, & the limited slip for other applications.
I trialed a locker over a six month period for possible use in my fleet back in the late 80's. We did not adopt them.

locked, welded etc. they f***en rip mate, give it some clutch and your of. up mountains etc like macquarie pass there un beatable. and down hill there good except you always have to be on the accelerator lightly for it to hold its line well. thats the biggest down fall about them i think apart from binding when turning but thats easily overcome

If you're going to run a locked [not locker] diff, then let me know what brand of tyres you use. I'l buy shares in the company. P.S. Just in case you didn't know before. It's illegal.

SPEED? Moi? Non. well,.. not often, . errr, sometimes, OK, occasionally, umm some of the time, a bit, a fair bit, quite a bit, a lot, most of the time, constantly, habitually. OK, you got me, i leave my driveway at 100k, then accelerate from there. I feel so ashamed.
Locked rears can be death in the wet, but i guess you knew that. Ever wonder why they are illegal? That would be a good start.

What a coincidence!!!! One of the many tasks we did today was to pull the diff centre out and perform a CIG locker operation. This is purely a circuit car and there is no doubt that the handling (read balance) will change, but for a circuit car I will take a locked diff anyday. All we have to do now is get to a track before the next race meeting and sort out our shock settings and also be prepared with a rear sway bar in case needed AdamBDA

there death in the wet to someone that is stupid in a car and doesnt know how to drive. im sure you have probably driven a car that just wants to spin one wheel all the time in the wet. youve probably also realised they can go from going straight and only one wheel spinning to all of a sudden totally sideways cos the other wheel has started to spin aswell. i think lockers are safer for this reason, but on the same note you probably shouldnt be doing that on the road... hahah. but yeh from what i understand lockers are illegal because if you dont weld them properly and they weld snaps off they can jam the diff and lock the rear wheels up (like a handbrake). but yeh if your going to lock a diff get it done properly or use a mini spool

I used to run a CIG locker in my LC Holden Torana with a very tuff 6 in it ..Very good for 1/4 mile action but they are dangerous on the street and deadly in the wet.Oh yeah do a turn in front of a copper at low speed and try to explain why the back wheels were chirping without getting a defect notice
