Lately when turning right I have noticed my ute making a sound as if scrubbing on the guards.. Now as I get this alot I kind of brushed it off at first. Then tonight I noticed it happening more frequently, I'm pretty sure it isn't scrubbing that's making the noise. Anyway I started to get a squeking noise even when I was driving straight. Now as I was about 20 mins from home I nursed it the whole way back only to find that noise was getting louder. It gradually changed from a squek to a kind of grinding noise. My first thought was wheel bearing, but when I got home I jacked it up and span the wheel. It didn't sound 100% but no real noise was coming out of it. If it is the wheel bearing will it only make the noist while the weight of the front end is applied? Please help.......

I recently had a very similar problem noise wise - started off as sounding like the tyres scrubbing the inside of my guard - and gradually got louder and louder.

On inspection, nothing seemed wrong at all - and I inspected the area about 10 times, everything was tight.

Anyway after pulling everything apart (anything to do with safety makes me look for the problem until its solved), it turned out that one of the bolts holding my brake calliper on had snapped internally - so the calliper was making the noise against the disc on cornering etc. Funnily (and luckily) enough not once did the brakes cause me any problems during that whole time.

Maybe worth a look? Hope you find the problem.

does the sound change when you brake?
or when you turn L or R? (louder/quieter)

sounds like the squeal tabs on the brake pads, best you check. When was the last time you had pads?

Jack it up take the wheel off and take a look at the brake pads. There is a chance there is no pad left and the steel backing plate thay glue the pad to is tearring a deep groove into the disc.If so a new disc or refacing the old disc is on the cards.

if its not your pads, try to find a quiet road with a hot mix surface and drive along it at about 20kms an hour and softly swerve from side to side and you will get an idea if it is a wheel bearing when you load up one wheel by swerving and putting load on it........
does that make any sense..shees Ive only had 2 cans too

It only made the noise when I was turning left but then it started to mame the noise as I went straight to. It never made the noise when I was braking but toward the end of the last time I drove it it made it before and after I used the brakes. I am about to go down and inspect.... I'll let you guys know what I find.

Took everything apart, inspected the brake calipre. Fine. Plenty of meat on the pads too. Continued to take of the disc and then thought I'd take a look at the wheel bearings. The small one had #### its dick and the big one wasn't far behind. Checked the other side and same deal only not as bad.. Only problem I have now is I started my campaign to late today and can't get bearings till monday...... Not happy Jan!
