Ive done a couple of CA18 conversions in the last few years using front cuts. These have been for other people and every time i say that i will not attempt it again. Well this time this one is for me for our business as a delivery ute
My question is
I have on both occassions used the CA box and auto tunnel, and a commercially available fitting kit, which brings the gear lever right back. A supposedly knowledgable fellow from one of these import places said that an RB30/VL gearbox would be shorter and that the CA bellhousing would fit onto the sandwich plate of this box. So I bought a reco one and you guessed it, it does not fit.The numbers cast into this box are RP71C#1
What box will fit the CA bellhousing and be shorter and what car is this shorter box from

Thanks

PS If anyone is after a reconditioned RB30/VL five speed I have a spare one !!!!!

I dont know from experience but I have heard that people use the stumpy skyline box to bring the shifter forward however this box is alot weaker.

i have a ca in my wagon and have spoken to quite a few people and there is not much that can be done unless you are willing to spend about 1500 to have a new bellhousing machined to fit some thing like a celica 5 speed. so in the mean time i just turned the shifter around and its a bit better. i got mine in without cutting the tunnel at all if that makes any difference !!!!

its the MR30 skyline 5spd that makes the shifter come up throught the standard hole..

and yes it bolts up to the CA bellhousing

From behind an L24 ,but it needs a ca bell/h from a s3 bluebird.I've heard these boxes are plenty strong too.Now I belive the gazelle box is the same box with and it bolts straight up to a ca (they are both fs5w71b).
