Smokey engine...

I'm taking the 1200 in for a rego inspection next week, and I'm a bit worried it will fail because of engine smoke.
Its a rather tired a12 which has visible smoke at idle and after idling for a while if you rev it a bit it smokes more. Blue smoke. None visible out the rear when driving.

I've tried that stuff that thickens the oil but it didnt help much. Is there anything else I can use?
I'm going to bin the motor as soon as it passes rego.

Any help appreciated,

Tyrie

You could have a go at putting some valve stem seals on, you can do this without taking the head off.

You could try using some [more?] 'Lucas Heavy Duty oil Stabiliser' if you think that the high vacuum at idle is pulling oil past the rings. Give it a gutfull if the engine is to be pulled soon & just warm the engine up carefully before giving it a big rev.
We don't want that thick oil cavitating in the pump when cold & causing some unwanted problems.

Definately valve stem seals. If you cant or dont want to replace them, just by thick oil to start with. #### wasting money on oil thickener when its only going to make it as thick as the cheaper priced thick oil to start with.
Why not just change the engine before inspection so you get the correct engine numbers on your rego papers.

lol but the thickener is cheaper than cheapo oil, and I dont have to dig a hole to put the old oil in

After driving it for two days with the thickener in it is all good! I just didnt run it long enough I think. Now I just have to pray the rego guy is as dodgy as I've been told he is
