UPDATE: Thanks for everyones input. Sound like something around the 450x300mm size is the way to go. Ute has been picked up today and taken to the intercooler piping guy. He sells the Hybrid copies and can also get PWR. Will see what his prices are like and make a decision in the next day or two.

Just wondering whether any of the CA guys have found a reasonably priced off -the-shelf ntercooler that fits behind the grill of a 1200 and doesn't require much chopping of the radiator support.
I am about to fit a U13 Bluebird unit but feel with the flood of cheap intercoolers on the market now there must be something better. Oh, I'm using a S13 Silvia radiator.
I realise you can make anything fit if you try but I want a fairly stealth installation.
(similar to the Kev Rowley unit on Jacks ute but without the $1000+ price tag)
If anyone has one for sale please PM me (prefer one with necessary piping).

anything around the 450x300x76 core size can be made to fit behind the grill of a 1200. I have the original metal grill (not the plastic) and mine still fits behind there. Check out some of my pics in the photo album to see what i mean

Pwr coolers are an awesome price for what they are!! They're an excellent tube and fin design, and they'll custom make any design, I always use them. If you talk to them, you may find they already have a design for a 1200.

If you're really looking for stealth, look at PWR's barrell coolers!

The cheap ones you get off ebay are cheap because they are 'bar and plate', which doesn't flow as well and is not as efficient. They're fine if money is tight, but I think the $200 extra for a PWR is worth it.

I think you will find it has nothing to do whether its a bar and plate or a tube and fin. You will find it has to do with the ebay bar and plates being really cheap design. I run a bar and plate cooler 450x300x76 on my ute and i'm making over 300hp at the wheels. My cooler is having no problems at all handling that power and inlet temps are staying right down. It is because i use a genuine Garrett B+P core and not a cheap imatation.

Don't write off the cheap intercoolers so easily boys. While I will always be an advocate of buying the best quality product you can afford there are plenty of high powered cars using imitation Hybrid coolers with absolutely fantastic results.

Personally, I have a Kev Rowley designed one and it works beautifully. You can't see it either which I love.

I didn't write them off by any means! I think they are fine for a cost effective solution, and I've seen good results from them.
I just think that for the price you can't go past a PWR

don't get me wrong, i'm not writing them off, i use to have one on my old R32 skyline and it worked great. I'm just saying that having a good core will gaurantee decent flow and cooling.
