Hi everyone,
I have just purchased a datto 1200 ute (1971) and I want to upgrade the engine to a 5 speed. I want something that is good on petrol, but will still go well and will be easy to change over

ANY SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED
Thanks

A15 with a five speed and a decent carby/s will be good on fuel and they go pretty good.I just got rid of a rebuilt A15 with a 5 speed and everything to get it running. ive heard the 5 speeds are a bit pricey though. Im sure others will have better advice than this on whats good and whats not.

Im not sure what the rules are in your neck of the woods, but you can legally slot an a14 in in NSW. This should set you back around 400 bucks for a deacent one. Get some SU carbs.

The 5spds are pricy... probably $900. 4 speeds, however, are cheap as chips and go fine.... I have heaps. You are looking at $20.

Good luck and welcome to the club
