Ok So I was slatted to instruct at our local Porsche Club track day Saturday and seeing as instructors get a break on the entry I loaded up the 1200..................car ran great all day even with 235 water temp , caused by someone putting off having the radiator rodded.
Well at the end of the day with the temp gauge reading closer to 240 , all of a sudden the car drops a cylinder and starts making this rattling sound as if something is slapping the valve cover. No biggie I'm putting in a new cam and 12-1 pistons so it was coming apart anyway.
Well after popping the valve cover , low and behold somehow the lock nut for the valve lash adjuster backed off and the adjuster backed out so far it was rapping the underside of the valve cover.............oops guess I should fire the mechanic but the guy works so cheap and he fixed the problem in about 15 minutes.

what radiator?

i ran a stock 1200 w/3 row

the car stayed cool even during 100+ degree (Fahrenheit) track days

su's hitachis were great too 'cause they weren't picky about the weather compared to sideys or (especially) a turbo

Matt I'm using the 3 row GX radiator as well , it always ran cool. I was bad and the car was out of my care when I had the sports racer AND it's been in there since 92 it needs a good cleaning , I've flushed it but it's time.

I too like the SU's as they are versitile , plus I often throw a student in the passenger seat so the extra weight means the motor is sometimes lugging down around 3500 RPM's coming off corners, which the SU's are fine with.
