Does it have to be so thick tho? Remember this isnt the part where all the boost runs through, so it shouldnt have to be thicker then a set of headers... and they dont seem that thick!

A couple of weeks back I spent an hour or two welding up holes in an exhaust manifold that had been made just from regular thin walled bends rather than steam pipe. Those manifolds absolutely will not last if they are not made out of the thick walled stuff.

The exhaust manifold on a turbo engine does also have to hold pressure, where do you think the energy comes from to drive the turbine? This is why for turbo applications you always go for the biggest exhaust after the turbo possible. The bigger the exhaust, the lower the pressure will be on the exit of the turbine. This creates a larger pressure drop from inlet to outlet of the turbine extracting more energy from the exhaust gasses which is then transferred back into the motor (increases efficiency).

ok peoples i measured the pipiing myself it is 4mm thick, This is definetley steam pipe.

Sad to say tho its going to be another week or so til the welder can get enough time to make more. But still the more nootice the better if you want any.

So than its only 2mm thick?

If A series exhaust ports are just over 1 inch square. Dont you think 1 inch round ID is a little undersize?

yeah i agree must be 1 inch, mine was 1.25 steam bends as above

if the wall is 4mm thick it will do the job for sure, its typical exhaust steels, (which are so much thinner) that crack easily

i think it may be a good idea to spec these manifolds up to a 1.25 inch if a design change is possible at this point

but thinner pipe equals faster gas speeds equals faster spool up

What if Us 1000 kids got a short "J" pipe made to fit this flange???? and 'higher' mount the turbo?
