G'day all, I have come across a pair of 40mm side draught weber carbies which have been fully recond, for $650.00
I just want to know if this is a fair price to pay for them, or am I getting ripped off???????

They will be going on a worked A15 motor down the track.
thanks.

I think you could do better, especially if its not urgent.

I dont think its a rip off, at least someone has gone to some effort, and that costs money.

The price seems good for a well sorted pair.
If they are fully recon then you have yourself a bargain.
A really tidy set can fetch $900. A new pair will cost you twice that.
A word of warning though.
You will need a mechanic that knows how to tune webers correctly. Otherwise you are wasting your time.
Personally I reckon you are better off saving your coin and going for a fuel injected motor.

Thank you all for your comments guys.

Yes wombat I have an A15 at home which I will most likely be getting recond/worked, and a mate has these webers which came off a ta22 celica. So if I do end up buying these carbs then I will have to start work on my A15 motor, so that I would have something to put them onto.

I still need to buy a twin carb manifold though.
Anyway with the A15 motor, I just want to work it a little, something thats similar to my worked A12 that I have in the green coupe at the moment.
eg: mild cam, bored out slightly, port n polished, shaved head etc
My worked A12 is a great reliable, powerful and strong little motor, so if I can get my A15 motor done very similar then I would be very happy.

I will keep you all posted on how I go.

$600.00 should well and truly stop a pair of 40's in good nick.Dellortos are much cheaper due to the jetting and tuning problems, add another 150-200 bucks for 45's.A new redline manifold is about $300.00 with some grinding req'd to make it fit properly. The biggest hurdle is to find some one with old school weber experiance with a dyno inhouse and a large array of jets.

If you take a yet to be run in A15 with sidies along to get done properley expect it to be an overnighter and about $700-1000
My advice based on personal experiance in the sunny state...think hard and good luck

Cheers Bert

Thanks guys.
With all your comments I might just run my single 32/36 downdraught weber on the A15, as I have priced a twin carb manifold from redline performance and they are $265inc, then add another $20.00 each for soft mounts and a linkage kit will set me back about $95.00
I also have to find ram tubes and it's highly likely they will need new chokes, and lastly I will have to get someone to tune them correctly.

All I can see is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ signs in front of me.

But please keep the comments coming.

I have some news to tell you all.

I have bought them, they have had over $250.00 worth of work done to them, this consisting of a full dismantle, acid dip and clean, reassemble with overhaul kits.
They both look brand new, they came with a complete set of ram tubes that have been polished and also the soft mounts aswell all included in the price.

My mate said that they are a rarer type of 40mm weber, something about removing the centres all in one piece.

Anyway now that means I have to get the A15 project started. so that I have something to put them on.
