Hi everyone.
Well I have finally decided over a long time, to get my A15 motor worked and put into my green 120y coupe.
I took her out for a run on this great fine day and decided I need more power.
For everyone that doesn't know I am currently running the original A12 motor which has been worked.
This consists of flat top pistons, lightened flywheel, port n polished, a15 valves, electronic ignition, shaved head, bored out, mild cam, weber 32/36, extractors and 2 inch exhaust.
It performs quite well, but I have driven it for so long now that I want more horses
It is a very reliable and strong motor.

I would like my A15 motor to have the same things done to it as my A12, except the only thing I won't get done is the flywheel lightened as I want to get the torque out of the motor, so it won't get up in revs as quickly as my worked A12 does now with it's lightened flywheel.

So is there anything that I should know before getting the A15 motor worked??????

Remember I want it to be reliable, powerful and strong. I don't want a race motor, just some thing that is streetable.

Please all comments welcome.

I would suggest that you bolt the head, distributor, cam, manifolds and carby from your A12 directly onto the A15.
The gains should be enough to please!

If you need a little more power you could also shave the head down a little more to bring up the compression.
Most A15 are low compression and have extra clearence for the valves so you should be ok to take a fair skim off the head.

What power were you getting out of the A12?
and how much did you want from the A15?

Good luck mate

Hi gino120y thanks for your reply
I don't really know what power I am getting out of the A12 at the moment, so I can't help you there

As far as the A15 motor is concerened, I won't be pulling my worked A12 apart and swapping things across.
I will start from scratch again and try and use all A15 parts.

I would like to do the same things to the A15 as my A12 has now except for lightening the flywheel as I would like the torque from the A15.

So is there any hidden things I should know about before doing this to the A15????
(ie do's and dont's)
please keep the comments rolling.

for a few hundred more you could fit a L16 or L18 and have heaps more torque, and a 5spd box that you'll never have to worry about breaking.

hi thanks for your comment but I currently have a datsun 5 speed (normal shift pattern) in it at the moment and have two A15 motors and I just want something that is an easy bolt in and away I go affair.

Cheers.

the conversion is so easy in a 120Y, I wouldn't waste money on the A series. L16 will give much better results and be more reliable with the stronger 5spd box.

Good to see another A series project getting started! How much work you want done to your A15 is directly related to how much cash u want to spend and who does the work. I would say go all out on the A15 - but im completly biased...

if only I didint buy Daves stuff you would have had a good start there.

I have seen aset of pistons that allow you to take the A15 out to something like 1608cc

Have a talk to Dundee1000 he might just have what you want.

Thanks guys but, my A15 isn't going to be a racing motor, and I want it to last for a long while to come.
So I am not going stupid on it, just something that is quite powerful, reliable and last the distance.
I can't wait to get it back, an extra 300 odd cc's.
With the A15 and overdrive datsun 5-speed it should be a blast to drive.
