engine oil: Castrol 20w50
coolant: Nissan long life coolant and Distilled water...50/50/mix. In this area we use distilled water because we have very hard water that leaves deposits.

Note: just cause I posted this, it dosen't mean I know what I'm talking about

For street use, I recommend "regular" oil and lubricants. For the CA18, check the owner's manual. It probably takes 10W40 oil.

For the gearbox and diff, 90W should work, again check the owner's manual. For the Datsun 1200, Nissan recommended (in 1972) to use 75W to 140W, so today's common 75W-140 should be perfect.

I buy whatever brand is on sale and meets Nissan's recommendations. I've never had an engine break, over 26 years of driving and many vehicles brands.

For the Datsun 1200 stock engine, transmission and diff, Nissan recommended many lubricant brands by name, and those same types are still commonly used 35 years later (example: 10W40).

Nissan Recommend Lubricants

For the radiator use distilled water in a 50/50 mix of coolant/antifreeze. If you live in freezing areas, check the coolant container for instructions (may require a 30/70 mix in very cold areas).

for the coolant use where the system has alloy components, nulon red long life because it has the correct corrosion inhibitors for the different alloys in your system, toyota genuine is also very good, and at work we use valvoline g05 coolant because it is adaptable to all kinds of metals, so that means we can put it in any car and it meets its requirements but its more expensive.
for engine oils, sae ratings eg 10w 40 are a general thickness guide, the real thing that you should be looking at is the api rating eg sm, sl, sg for your engine. this is based on the oils wear properties and what conditions its used for. as different oils "should" be used for different seasons they change the sae ratings to suit those seasons. hense the different thicknesses of oils.
eg if your ca required a 20w 50 oil if you were to put castol gtx in your ca, it wouldnt be a good oil for it because it isnt up to the standard it was designed for, as it has an older rating eg api: sl. but the castrol gtx2 is still a 20w 50 but has a current rating oil(its exactly the same api rating as castrol magnatec.) so would be suitable for your engine eg api: sm. the higher the letter the better an oil is, as a general rule
hope ive helped you and havent confused you!!!
cheers kurt

sr20det - running in i used the the nissan 7.5w 30 but once that was done full synthetic mobil 1 10w 30.

coolant you need to find something with a high glycol content for alloy. i use castrol anti freeze anti boil concentrate stuff which comes in a white 2.5lt bottle and costs about $30 i think - good stuff
