I have a major problem with my dellow kit, Took the 1000 round the block this arvo just before i put it on the trailer to go to the dat nats and i have a major clutch malfunction, just ripped the gear box out and discovered that the thrust bearing has disintergrated! it must be a toyota bearing , its completely different from the dato thrust bearing. It melted the plastic and chewed the bearing fully out! i'll take a photo later.

What i want to know is if the Datsun thrust bearing can be used? i need to get it together tonight, i plan to leave for the dat nats tomorrow, i litterally nearly pulled all my hair out!

Any help would be highly appreiciated!!!!

i highly doubt the datsun thrust bearing will suit, im sure you are supposed to use the toyota bearing... i am struggling to see what has caused your issue

you mention a plastic bit.... what is that???

I checked a T-50 gearbox bearing and a 60-series 4-speed datto bearing. They were a directly-swappable item for the fit onto the bearing carrier and I think the length was about the same. The main difference was one had a larger diameter contact zone with the clutch fingers. I'm sure you'll work it out pretty quickly.

no it doesn't fit straight on.

The bearing sleeve ID is heaps bigger on the toyota unit, as seen in the photo.

i'll have to go and find a toyota bearing tomorrow!

It had to happen just before the DAT NATS!! Just my luck!!!!

Steveo is it a toyota item or an aftermarket item cause I had the same thing happen to celica years ago and it was a 3 year old clutch kit from China or Malaysia as I remember.

the bearing is an NSK unit, i went and got another thrust bearing this morning for a 3T celica 5-speed and installed it and the same thing happened to the new one, it burnt out in only a few minutes of driving.

What thrust bearing do people use with a dellow 5-speed to A-series conversion?
Would it be better to use the Datsun Steel bearing?

So all this means that the trip to the Datnats is officially been cancelled! what a Bummer!

I think i need a stiff drink! ....... or 2!

Was this kit working well before?
If not there must be some serious alignment issue.
Are you using an alignment tool or does the box go
straight in?

i bought the gearbox with thdellow kit off siedraught a couple of months ago, and i assume it was working fine when he had it. I made up a clutch aligning tool at work so there no problem with that, got me stumped!
