hey i just bought a new pair of ute tail lights.

before i go and tear apart the ones there. what is the correct procedure to take them off and put the new ones in?

Not really, just remove the screws that you can see, remove the lenses.

i took the rear panels out in the tray and used T bars to take the entire light assembly out, but then ya gotta change the plug. yeah its easier to swap the lenses around if the frames all goooood

you only need to take out the middle lense, then take off the inner panel from the tray, and it should be two 8mm nuts on the inside.

Yeah I bought aftermarket lights for a 1980 model ute I
had awhile back and the plugs didn't match those on the
cars wiring loom so had to cutoff the plugs from the original tailight housing and splice them on to the new lights.
If your original housings are in good nick I'd just swap
the lenses over as the taiwanese housings are a bit rough
and use self tappers instead of bolts to hold the lenses on. They also seem to leave some gaps around where the lense should seal to the housing.

P.S> I did hear from someone else that they bought aftermarket taillights and the plugs matched up so might
depend on the year? Hopefully your lucky.

yeah could be because of year. cadet1200 were yours the chrome ones? i bought em and found the quality average. yeah if the housings fine ya may as well use that, im painting mine black because i reckon it looks better than the average looking chrome they gave me

When I run into electrical plug differenses I tend to make a piggy tail to go from the original plug to the new unit plug. This is done for two reasons 1. Keeps the integrity of your original wiring. 2. If you don't care for the after market item you can switch back without cursing yourself for cutting the original wires.

Yes, early 1200s use the bayonet and spade wiring connectors. The tail lights use spade connectors




Later utes use B210-like system of multi-pin locking connectors.

thanks for the help, had to cut the wires then re plug them and in the process snapped my brake lense!!! argh, insult to injusry thats for sure. haha
