Gday,im trying to find out what tailshaft i have.ive put a ute rear end in my coupe and i had to shorten the shaft.now the problem i have is i have damaged this tailshaft and after another one but i cant remember what model datto its off.it has larger unis than a ute shaft and it is same diameter for the total length of it.all other ones have a reduced section each end which makes it harder to shorten.can anyone tell me the one that i currently have and does anyone have one as i need it urgently, racing this weekend but might have to race it with the damaged one for now.any help on this would be great as it has baffled me.cheers nuts

Just use a ute tailshaft. It's a bolt-in for a 1200 coupe & sedan with the ute diff.

It will fit all 56-series and 60-series transmissions.

If you have a 63-series transmission that takes a different length. In that case use a Datsun Sunny automatic tailshaft -- no shortening needed.

15mm too long for what?

Does your coupe have A-series engine and stock transmission? It is the same engine and transmission as the ute. Also coupe & ute have the same wheelbase. The basic difference is the diff & tailshaft.

Long wheelbase utes (not common in Australia I hear) uses a two-piece shaft, so it cannot be confused with the normal ute shaft.

I live in New Zealand and had the same problem when i installed a H165 ( 1200 ute diff ) into my sedan. I thought the Ute drive shaft would fit but no.. 15-20mm to long! I have a A14 with a Ute cross member and a 60a 5speed out of a sunny

Hmmm, thats interesting as I had exactly the same problem with the SSS. A14 with ute crossmemeber, Datsun 5 speed c/r and H145 back end and had to end up shortening the drive shaft by about what you are mentioning.
