ok, set points to about .50 seems to run smoother on idle, (i must have had it a bit too close). havent taken it for a drive yet to see if it still missfires...

yeah book says .45-.55mm so .50 is perfect...

just did Datogals 1200 and that fixed a lot of problems, there was also a frayed wire inside the dizzy which i replaced

noticed with brand new points i couldn't set the gap to .5mm only about .3mm, i cracked it and went and got some clean looking points out of an old dizzy and its been humming beautiful since

My Dattos have always run so much better and much better power by replacing points with one of the hall effect electronic ignitions like a Pertronix. Also heaps simpler to tune. I'll never bother with points ever again. Best $100 you can spend on a Datsun.

Points should be set at 49 to 55 degrees of dwell but go for 49 degrees & as the rubbing block wears it will move towards 55 degrees & it will stay within spec for longer.

Better yet, take SunnyDaze advice & get a Pertronix [or other] electronic conversion.

I did, & I added a GT40 coil & a set of platinum plugs for good measure. Starts first time, every time, & runs as sweet as you could ever wish.

why are you wasting your time with points for? go electronic you will save your self probs down the track, plus you get a much better spark nearly twice the spark and as the engine revs more n more you get that constant spark as to points as they get weaker as it revs...
