i need to replace the shocks in my 1200 ute with 120y struts. whats the best shock to use. i have rang a few places but they say monroe gas are the only ones available and may not work in lowered applications as they are positional. what are other people useing. don't want to waste my money if they aren;t going to be any better than the old ones. i also have ca18det so i have the extra weight to consider..... help appreciated

they wouldnt be for a 120y strut because you need to shorten your strut in order to fit
them (good if you run a lower than standard ride height)

unfortunately i dont know what car theyre from,
scott at maddat helped me with mine, he know's his stuff

just spoke to koni and they said they use a rear sunny or 120y shock and put some sort of spacer in and then machine the top where it bolts in depending on what tops u are useing. i think if u are using standard 120y ones they don't need to. 320 each tho plus 40 each for the spacers and another 50 each to modify the tops if needed. 900 for shocks is a bit rediculious i recon. is it a very hard process to shorten the strut???? that seems cheaper. so as u shorten the strut u lower the car aswell i guess. i would like to keep the 120y struts as i want to do the s13 brake conversion and keep the wheels i have and not mess around with offset. is it worth the trouble. how do the struts u have now handle. i want a fairly stiff ride.

well the koni's are adjustable and you can alter the stiffness with your spring choice also, mine handle great, but i cant really compare to any other setup apart from standard with a heavier spring.

I run Koni yellows in 120Y strut legs converted to coilovers too. Mine were fitted by Ken Graham at Accurate Suspension. It might be worth getting them through him as his prices are quite reasonable and he knows what's he's doing.

FWIW Ken has raced a 1600 for many years.

Koni. for the rear of an mr2 aw11. wholesale is $303 per shock. throw them in the lathe sand off the paint and there a snug fit. 65mm shorter.

thanks for your help guys. this really is a great spot for info. i think i'm going to go a coilover set up tho. can get them for around 200 from the states + shipping, then just shorten the strut. and i think they come with inserts. new problem is i removed and stripped the struts and had a look.
1 : there was oil everywhere and 2 : they are 2 different struts...... one is a 120y and the other is a 1200 coupe so the hubs and are different, so if any body knows where i can get a passenger side 120y strut that would be super. weird i know and i think the tops are off a pulsar strut, so i am told so its a bit of a mess at the moment. who thought getting shocks could be so difficult.
