No dramas. Was happy to help...but smoother is better I reckon!
If ute is going to be used to haul stuff in, put some hooks inside the tray sides to use for tie down points (like the jumbucks have).

A little bit of progress. I spent the last week unpicking most of the passenger side to get to the rusty bits.

Managed to make a start on actually replacing some of the rusted out sections.

the inner sill was fabbed, and I will move down the rail to replace the inner boxed sections, before putting on some POR 15 and closing her up with a new outer sill.

not much left here... lots of unpicking.

A new inner sill was slotted in.

inner view. the floor will be done once I get the outer sill back on.

the inner box section was cactus too.

ANother week, a little more progress.

I rebuilt the inner sill, inner wheel arch, POR15'd the inner sill and fabbed up some bracing for inner, lower rear quarter.

My new shrinker/stretcher made this easy.

inner brace was rotted out, so made one up.. I will run this down the entire length of the sill for strength.

starting to get closer to fitting up the new rear quarter.

Some great panel work there, well done!
A skill I'm sadly lacking!
Good luck with the rest of it, should look like a new one oince you're finished!

Hey thanks Shoota,

I've been honing my skills on Old Holdens for some time, this is my first Datsun.. I like how the metal doesn't destroy tools like the old stuff!

I have been lurking and following your build too, steady progress is good progress. Keep at it,
acquiring the right tools certainly helps things along too.

Our garages are a little similar I see.. 2 x utes and a Q5.

Cheers
Ed

Bailz,

it's got a crap load of rust.. the chassis rail is an easy fix. you should see where the tub meets the cab... and floor to wheel tubs.. Im considering just removing the entire tray floor and re-fabbing the wheel arches as well.. sometimes scratch building is easier than resto.

oh well you make do what you start with.

Ive saved worse cars than this (and remember telling myself to never do that again)...

as you said... just got to chip away one job at a time.

Cheers

Ed

Ha ha, I didn't see that! You've got good choice. What engine do you have in your Qey? Mine is the 3.0L diesel and it is unbelievable! I love it. Apart from the speeding fines I get in it from being so smooth and quiet. I've given mine to the wife now as a disguise for how much I'm spending on Datty. It's not working, luckily all the stuff I order for it turns up to work so I can slip them in through the garage door unseen when I get home.

We went for the 2.0TDI based on price and fuel economy. After having a 3.0L X3 we really love the Q5. Fantstic car... The 2.0TDI while no supercar, certainly gets up and goes well for a mere 2.0L which looks down spec on paper. It is my wife's car too, I ride my pushy instead.
