Will this engine work on the 1200 coupe or will it be a bad choose to make in getting it. If it those fit what mod's will have to be made. The engine is from a toyota supra 1986 with a 5 speed tranny. Your opinion is welcome.

You can put any engine into anything with the right money, machinary and time. Wot exactly is the engine? 2L turbo? I would preferably stick with turbo nissan engines. But anything is possible. Davo

Those supra's use straight six engines.. Seems kinda longer than would be worth it to stick in a 1200.. I'd use a V6 of some sort..

I wouldnt bother. Too many mods for a straight six unless your making a full blown drag car or somthing. I think that the VG30 v6 the better swap but i think it would be too heavy if u want it to handle as well. Davo

If it's a pre '86.5 it will be a 2.8L 12valve engine with hydraulic lifters. These engines are heavy & big. The cams are prone to premature wear. They only put out approx 135hp. You would need the entire fuel injection system off the original car. I would imagine that if you mounted the engine in a 1200 with the timingbelt cover against the rad support, the rear of the head would be somewhere in the middle of the dashboard.(Inside the car!)The '83 to '85 Celica GT & GTS,(RWD) are a sister car to the same style of Supra, except the front clip(windshield to front bumper) on the Supra is longer. I don't think the 6cyl will even fit in the Celica, which is much bigger than the 1200. If you want to put a Toyota engine in your 1200 I would recommend a 4AGE 1.6L Twin Cam out of an '83 to '87 Corolla GTS(RWD). They rev to 7,000RPM stock & put out 115hp (with EFI). Their transmissions are also quite strong.

Gidday - I think the engine I was telling you to look at was in the 240SX in the US. I seem to remember it was around 2 litre 4 putting out 140HP. Does anyone in the States know the engine model # for that late 80's-early 90's car and whether it's worth fitting up to a 1200? It was called the Sylvia in Japan and I think 180SX in Aus. Maybe the engine was the CA18DE? Anyone know?

Well fellow members I greatly appriciate your opinions and ideas. So I'm going to pass on that engine offer and keep on looking for the perfect engine for the coupe. Thank You all. Laters..... Sergio

The earlier 240SX in the US had a 2.4 Liter engine (KA24E), then the later model 240's had a dual overhead cam version (KA24DE) which put out a little more power. They're just beginning to come out with aftermarket Turbo kits for these engines, but I think it may be too big for the 1200. Of course if they put a CA18DET and KA24DE in the same engine bay, maybe it's not much different??? I'm going home today, wish me luck on the drive 4th gear all the way! -Andy
