can some one tell me if the sunny diff is strong enough to take the torque of a lightly modified L18 (bit of head work, headers, twin 40s, mild cam, 5 speed.)

the help would be great.

diff is a funny topic

In theory, any size diff will cope with any size motor if you are smart with it. In reality you cant always be that gentle.

Diffs break mainly due to the shock loads that they sustain during hard use. If you drop the clutch suddenly, even a new diff has an amount of play in it, and the shock placed on the diff, if repeated enough will break it.
ure bigger diffs are stronger, but if you dont plan on doing drags and burnouts, then the standard would be fine. If you are a keen one for that stuff, then maybe a bigger diff would be useful, but even then I would wait till the diff is buggered or it breaks (not ideal thou to wait for a tow after a drag!)

The big question really is.....
what do you plan to subject the diff to?
Get that answer and then you can decide. Im not sure what is an easy swap, others can help you in that area.

if it's not , you could put a stanza diff in,

but then you would have built a stanza in a sunny body?

you can use the diff from an older subaru justy. but then you would have to fabricate the whole rear cross member. because the subaru diff is independant suspension, and not leaf springs... but it is worth it. because you upgrade sooo much.. indy rear suspension, "POSSY", and one hella tuff diff.... ..that is excactly what i am gonne do to my datsun 1200...

Rueby_tuesday has correctly summed it up in one sentence.
If you "drive" the car, the H150 diff should hold up fairly well to full throttle useage ONCE THE CLUTCH IS FULLY ENGAGED.
If your adrenelin level needs severe clutch dumping to maintain it's flow, then be prepared to do a lot of walking, & the spending of good cash money on replacement difs & axles.

its just a run around that seems to be getting developed. the king springs and new shocks have already gone in the new swaybars are coming and the whole front end is getting a rebuild with a set of stanza brakes, all thought the sunny brakes are quite good. i figured if i was going to go this far then wats a bigger engine.

the car will be copping town driving with some gravel on the outskirts of town. burnouts and so on are a waste of tyres, drags dont do a lot for me, the fun is pushing the car around as fast as posible not in a straight line.

thanks for the help.

Well I think just to stick with the original one will be tthe answer.
If the slop in it is too much then replace it with another original. keeps it simple that way. Replacing a diff with anytihing but the original is never a striaght swap. I still use my original diff in my 1000 with a bombed 1200 in it and its showing no signs of imploding.
