removing gearbox and diff?

can you pull out an A series gear box without taking out the engine? also how do you pull diffs out of a 120Y?

yes the bestway in my opinion is to un bolt it from the engine and tailshaft and support it sumhow from underneath then take off the g/box crossmember and bobs ur uncle cheers

yeh, unbolt and take out all the bolts around the bellhousing except for the top 2. leave these in (but loosish)until u have done everythin else.
take off starter motor, speedo drive cable and everything else.
then undo the tailshaft bolts at the diff, making sure u dont pull the tailshaft out. or else you'll end up all coverd in oil.
now undo the top bolts on the bell housing.
then lie underneath the box with ur knees supporting it and undo the crossmember. pull box backwards to get it to slip out.
hey presto!

I would also reccomend unbolting the exuast front pipe from the manifold. This allows the engine to tilt down slightly so you can slide the gearbox back without hitting the tunnel.

i bought a 120Y coupe for $50 and im strippin the parts off it so i dont mind if i hit the tunnel. also im taking the diff out so i can have a locked one. should i just take the diff center out or the whole thing???
