ok so on friday i put new s13 brakes on the front of my ute and also a new 3/4 master cylinder. Yesterday i was driving along and they locked up and the pedal went hard right at the top of the stroke ... So i pulled them apart and pulled the anti-squeal shims out and it was fine ... But now the pedal is starting to get harder higher in the stroke and i'm worried its going to happen again ... Any ideas as to what the problem is?

If your M/C is from a vehicle with four wheel drums, you'll need to remove the wee valve from in the M/C, under yhe big nut where the brake line attaches.

Sounds like you haven't adjusted the pushrod on the master cylinder, there should be a slight bit of play at the pin when its set right. Hope that helps.

are you using a booster? if not my problem was the mushroom head on the rod was too large, and i had to machine it down, so the master could fully depress. i was using a booster type master 13/16 sunny, but without the booster, inside the back of the master is different to a non boosted master, as the booster normally has a rod to push the master, not a mushroom head, i had all new flexible lines, so i could eliminate all avenues. and the adjustable type are adjusted where they go through the pedal, but that didn'
t me, as the mushroom head held in by the circlip was too big

no booster ... I was just going through it in my head and when i put the pushrod in you have to put the washer in to and that would also affect the cylinder position ... Grrr now i gotta pull the bastard down again and bleed the brakes again grrr

just carefully remove the rod, and try and put the circlip back in, so you get no air in the system,
