Okay.

So the previous owner welded/filled in all the holes in the body to install these badges:

How do they install? Do they have clips that hold them in place?

Also does anyone have exact measurements for the sides and tailgate badges so that I can drill the holes for them before my ute eventually gets painted?

Thanks in advance

The 'Datsun' badge was not used on utes. The 'Datsun 1200' badge was placed here:

Starting December 1975, a flat sticker decal was used

October 1979 it changed to Datsun

For 1985 it changed to Nissan

1. Three simple holes are drilled
2. Round inserts are pushed into the holes
3. The badge is pushed into the inserts

The inserts may be stuck to the old badge, you can see them on this GL badge:

Not sold separately, but can be found on wrecker cars on old broken badges

Reminds me: After drilling the holes, paint the edges of the hole

At least some of the 1200 badges had a rubber seal (as seen in the GL badge photo)

OPTIONAL
* Put a dab of silicon RTV Sealer at the base of the badge studs to form a tiny donut gasket. Let set up to tacky to touch. Then install

Good find. I imagine NAPA or even Oreilly's has generic clips for sale

Scott's Old Rubber sells them too I think
