Wiring
The room lamp has one side of the lamp (RL wire) always hot from the L wire of the fuse box. The switch has three positions:
* Off * Auto (center) * On
In the auto position, the light is grounded by the Door Switch (BR wire in A-pillar). Usually only the driver's side door has a switch. In the ON position, it is grounded through the ground wire in the headliner.

Black Ground5036 Black/red Ground from door switch Red/blue Always Hot
- Ground wire out of Lamp may be a short wire that bolts to the roof metal
- Some Lamps have no Ground wire (black wire) but ground through the lamp screws
1973 used a relay, but with the same wire colors. The 1973 door switch is a double-switch (with an extra wire).
