A few intrepid 1200 fans have fitted small-block Chevrolet (sbc) engines to their B110s. The newer versions are known as GM "Gen III" engines.
Dat383 is one of those fabricators. He has been kind enough to share with the club much of the story of what is involved in this kind of engine swap.
Note that cutting the firewall and transmission tunnel is *not* needed when fitting an SBC (for automatic-equipped 1200s), however it will be easier to do the swap if you cut away a large opening.
As a word of warning, here are some of the many major modifications that is needed to make a V8 conversion work in a Datsun 1200:
- Rack & Pinion steering gearbox swap
- Relocating the brake master behind the dash
- Custom Exhaust system
- Front suspension modification
- Fitting Chevrolet transmission (old and small Powerglide automatic)
- Rear Axle Swaps
- Rear suspension
- Body strength, roll cage tied into front and rear suspension
...and about 1000 other jobs.
