I bought this GX head new in the early 80's & still have the box it came in, so it's a real deal 1200GX one, but lacks the casting number. What's the deal with these casting numbers i wonder.

I was amazed at how clean it was inside after all this time. I took this photo only a few minutes after removing it.
It's done two full service lives, so it's headed for Feral's shop for a total makeover. Gotta stay with those that know what they're doing.

I prefer to use studs & nuts to retain the rocker cover as they keep the gasket in place better while trying to refit the cover, so i gotta get three more

The real GX heads came with NISSAN cast in the top and no numbers.

It's not used, abused or neglected any longer.
Doctor Ferral gave a referal, [& my-lovely's head,] to his preferred specialist to perform the necessary cranial surgery, & now it can breathe clearly, & it's all clean & shiney. Better than new.
See, not unloved any more.

Does this head have larger oil drain holes (pushrod holes) than a regular cylinder head?

Pushrod holes should be the same size as all of the others.

The GX heads that I have seen have been 1200 & early A12 ones. These all had four drilled coolant holes below the inlet ports while all of the [regular] A14/15 heads that I have seen have had three smaller holes under the three rearmost of the inlet ports.

Any chance of some pictures?

You can see the coolant holes that I mentioned quite clearly in this picture. This is a 1200 GX head.
