The photo is of an A10. It was lifted from a Sunny Coupe brochure & it has the characteristic A10 Altenator, fuel pump & temp sender [screw terminal]
Whats so diferent about this one?

Crankcase ventilation.

This engine uses what looks to be a sealed oil filler cap as it looks the same as the later 1200 ones, while Aussie ones use a filtered breather cap. This one seems to dump crankcase fumes straight onto the air filter element while Aussie A10's used a draught tube that runs down the side of the block at the rear.
This engine does not seem to have any method of introducing clean filtered air into the crankcase.

Does this engine have positive crankcase ventilation? I don't know as i don't have a side view,.... yet.

It's clean and there is no such thing as a clean A10.

It would have a pcv valve at the rear of the inlet manifold(as all A series have) and a pipe from the back of the block(it could even be an early 1200,they have the same alt,dist,pump set up.Greg

The Datsun 1200 engine, & all later A series engines had PCV, but not the A10, & the PCV valve is normally located under the carb.
I now have a factory "illustration" of the manifold side of this engine & there is no PCV or draught tube visible.
It would seem that the Japanese spec was diferent as this system just pumps fumes straight onto the side of the air filter element. Our system pumped oil droplets onto the center of the trafic lane where motorcycles are riden on wet days.

According to my B110 parts book, the alternator, the fuel pump & the temp sender were all changed with the introduction of the 1200 engine.

I just looked at my god daughters 1000 wagon and some of the damaged grey matter kicked back into action and your right, must be to much work on A12 and A15 motors fogs the brain.Greg

looks like there is a blue pipe coming out of the back of the rocker cover at a wierd angle, towards the right (distribitor) side of the engine. Haven't noticed that before on A10's or 12's

The question was answered in the first two words of the first post. The air filter housing has a diferent snorkel but this is not readily detectable in the photo & it differs with the fitting for the hose.

Yes, it has a completely diferent crankcase ventilation system.

Rather primitive. It ventilated the crankcase, but not particularly well. That system was abanded in US after 1964.

It appears to use the same method the A12 uses -- there is a black hose at rear top of rocker cover, which goes to the air cleaner housing. This is the inlet for fresh air to crankcase at low speed, and the outlet of the crankcase pressure as hight speed (at which point the carb is drawing in a lot of air).

That should be the heater hose fitting at back of the cylinder head. There's a blue vinyl plug on the fitting.
