At the Bay to Birdwood Classic last year. It's rumored that the owner of this car parted with over $40,000 for it.

Yeh only something like 455 ever built though and only ever exported to Australia! A guy over here in WA has one. It has been lightly modded by the previous which is a shame, but thats his excuse to mod it more!

only a fairlady fanatic would pay this much for a frankenstein car

goertz designed body squeezed onto the sr311 frame makes for a squatty exterior profile and clausterphobic interior, ill fitting panels, etc.

There was nothing wrong with the panel fit on these early Silvias each of which was virtually hand made, with hand beaten panel work, near perfect panel gaps and dead straight panels.

The SR311 chasssis has been raced with great success for nearly 40 years.

If this combination of a hand made body on a race proven chassis is how we define a frankenstein car , then the Silvia finds itself in the esteemed company of numerous such "frankensteins" as Bentleys, Aston Martins, Ferraris etc.

I agree with sidedraught (although from his avatar, he appears to be a Fairlady fanatic).

This first Sylvia was a designer model with coachbuilt body. $40k AUD is just today. This model will increase in value just like the $100k + plymouths. Who would pay so much for a plymouth? And yet many people are willing to pay that and more for a rare, historically significant car. This first Sylvia marks Nissan's awakening as a "world-class" car company, much as the limited production and very expensive Toyota GT did for Toyota.

More information on the first Sylvia is here: Wikipedia - Sylvia
