Have you got a bigger picture of your avatar (I forgot to bring my microscope with me today ), it would be cool to check out the inspiration.

Ah yes I learnt the hard way. I could only get a good deal on the paint at the time so I had the car striped and painted in two-pack 2005 VW Golf gun-metal grey ($4k worth). Its now been moved three times and had a cage fitted and flares made so the paint is all chipped and fugked so once I finish the build I'll pull everything out (once reg and wof'ed) and get it repainted. NOT the way to do it.

in this case i think slow and steady wins the race!

how did they manage to burn a hole through the floor! it would've sucked to loose the interior, some mothers do 'av em!

its good that you found a good use for it! looking very good!

Thanks everyone, panels primered up now, shell is seam sealed, just have to do a quick assemble to make sure everything is aligned then we have to hire the booth I guess in a couple weekends time.

Then the best bit starts!

Steveo, It caught fire because the guy was welding a bracket onto the floor weld popped through onto underside of rear seat and rest is history!

Cheers for the encouragement, there has been some disheartening times I can tell you, its coming together quite nicely now though. The car is going to be the same colour scheme as in my avatar, well something like that anyway. Painting it in bits theres hardly any masking and always looks so much cleaner.

It was my daily from dec05 to around april then the L16 with SSS head and carbs went in, it was ready for rego but the bloke doing the exhaust burnt through the floor, lost all the interior so I thought bugger I better just race the thing. Everything is working and fabricated, its already been put together and taken apart about a thousand times, to get panels aligned, doors and flares were the hardest.

When its time for final assembly I will lower the body over the complete motor and gearbox so nothing is damaged.

This is the base colour for the insides, wheel wells, engine bay and boot etc.

 Re: L16 1200 Build
I'm going to do a slight but not total hi-jack here, it's still related to the picture though.

When I built my car, I completely fit the engine, gearbox and everything that needed to be fitted. I could literally have connected the management, started the car and have driven it, it was that complete. I then completely stripped it down, and sent it for spray painting. When it came back it was reassembled, ECU wired up, and I drove it from there on.

What do other guys do regarding the fitting and finishing of their cars? It seems the norm is to spray the engine bay and sometimes the whole car, and then fit the engine and whatever else. This seems a little counter productive, as you stand a good chance of scratching up the new paint...

with my wagon im going to get the body done in primer then put the whole thing together so it would be basicly registerable (no windows will go in) then strip it right back down and finish painting it then put it back together that slow and careful so i dont scrath it

looking good. I always like this part of a build - starts to feel like you're really getting somewhere. keep it up mate.

so is it going to be white?
