before it became a race car. went through a pile of photos of my old cars tonight. I'd forgotten how my coupe looked back when it was still my daily driver...

found them when i was clearing out a room that I'm about to start painting.

I'm starting to want to build another 1200. Probably a sedan this time. Have a few ideas...

Are you going to build a pure streeter this time & keep the GTR for racing? If you build one that looks as nice as the coupe, I will be jealous.

Harry, what are the wheels? They look like Mazda 626, but they wouldn't fit the pattern?

they're off the Aussie R31 Skyline 14*5.5" (Pintara has the same wheels). They fitted well on the front with the Stanza struts, but at this stage I was using the 120Y diff which is same width as 1200, so i had the rear wheels modified to be 20mm deeper dish to fil the gaurds better. I think it had 195/60 R and 185/60 F in this photo. Front gaurds were lipped and trimmed though.

 Re: L18
yep steveo, it sold pretty quickly actually. To a guy in Adelaide who is going to race it with an SR20 turbo...

Wish I could say the same for the Skyline - I think I put too much money on it. I had no idea what to put on that car... I re-advertised it last week for $5500 with RWC. I'll need to replace a CV boot and fix the windscreen washers for RWC, but that's about it (hopefully!).

 Re: L18
yep red Datsuns are always the best but white's not far behind

Bruce, its Datsun Beacon Red. I think I still have the code around somewhere if you want it.

For tyre clearance I had to lip the gaurds and trim a little off the front edge of the wheelarch opening. I can send you a pic of that if you give me your email addy

When you say lipped do you mean folded right up or cut completely off.

Cheers

Looked sweet. How come you changed the colour scheme?

 Re: L18
folded right up against the outer skin.

the change in colour scheme started when I fitted the Corolla 4.3 Borg Warner diff that was about 3" wider overall. Had to flare the rear guards to fit the 205/60s under. That was years before I fitted the bolt-on flares. Hammering the gaurds out cracked the paint, and I had no red left, but heaps of white left over from painting the 120Y coupe I had at the time, so...
