Hmmmm, one of those oil pumps is on my shopping list, & as for that dipstick, it reminds me of someone, .... oh yeah, ... me.

Race engines aren't ####ed, they have 'racing clearances'
Now if it was a street engine it would be ####ed, but not in a racer [apparently]

i understand they have higher running clearances on surfaces bearings etc, but if the clearance is that high to make the engine produce blowby then the engine is at a disadvantage because it is losing compression? i dont see how that would help any engine let alone a race engine that should be producng more power than a streeter?

Wasnt Smokey Yunick called Smokey because his car (or was it a bike) had such generous race tolerances that smoke trailed out the back of it when racing?

What pump is that Chris ?

It's the you-beaut Datsunsport competition item. It uses two gears inside instead of the eccentric bi-rotor elements & has fittings for an oil cooler.
It's part No. 15000-25722 & it seems it was originally developed for the lovely A10 engine in the Datsun 1000.

With many thanks to KB110 for the pictures.
Here's a link.

So do you think because the fittings for an oil cooler are on the pump not the block you could run it with an external oil tank ? (Like a dry sump)

I'm still trying to think if it would work

I suppose that you could adapt it for dry sump use but the suction side is the same as the regular pump as it draws oil through the block. It then looks like it pumps it out through one of the fittings, through the cooler, then back into the pump housing, through the filter, & straight into the cylinder block's oil gallery.
It really was intended for a wet sump engine originally.

To go with a dry sump, you need a second pump for scavenging. It is often belt driven, but any form of positive drive would do, & it needs to have a capacity of several times more than the main oil pump as it will be sucking a lot of air in normal use.

Check with Neil [dattoman_1000] as he imported a whole bunch of dry sump stuff for his A series engine that he ended up not using, so he would be the man to see on this subject.
