How I wired relays in to run my headlights.

 Re: Headlight Relays
So you just cut a wiring harness at the wreckers and connected it up (leaving stock headlight connectors disconnected)? I like it, it works, it's quick.

This might explain why my headlights are soooo dim. I figured it was just that they are 20 years old...but maybe they aren't getting full voltage through the 35 year old wiring and light switch? I have no headlight relay in my 'stock' Datsun 1200.

 Re: Headlight Relays
For about 5 bucks at the auto parts shop, I bought some new connectors that fitted on to my head lights. I soldered these on to some nice heavy duty wire.
One of the old headlight connectors is disconnected, the other one is where i ran the trigger wires from to the relays. That way i didn't have to chop into the wiring and it can be returned to stock in about 60 secs if needed.

Yeah i imagine that on 35 year old contacts and wiring you would be getting some voltage drop. Easy way to check, measure the voltage at your headlights and at the battery. If the headlights voltage is less, its time for a trip to radio shack for some relays!!
