 Re: The Rust bucket.
yeah, the plans are, L20b with 5 speed. painted blue, mags, retro interior, and a few secrets to come.
I did a deal with a mate, the motor thats going in is a worked L20b, 40thou over bore, flat tops, al brand new bearings.
then i gotta get a head and sump for it.
the head will have a 30/70 cam, and a mild port and polish. i got a 45mm delorto on a 2 litre manifold ready to go on.
it should be good for about 150hp.
im getting the block for nothing, along with a spare diff ( i think i might need it!
) and a A12 and box.
arent mates good?
it says jono eats shoes coz i wrote it on a little brick but it said jamie eats shoes, then he wrote it along the wall.
but that dude drives a VL como so who cares.
It should come together alright.
im just keen to drag all my mates in there como's and #### box's and chop them hard.
thanks for the comments, it makes u apreciate ur car so much more.

never fear isn't this where all good street machines start out in pieces with 3 inches of dirt inside and half a paddock of grass growing out of the seat and a litter of kittens in the engine bay. and then look at them 2 years later they see the light of day and they look like they just came off a production line.

go for it dude get cracking, and lets see a cool project emerge

Oh man..I'm way behind schedule...

A car that costs twice as much originally will save you twice as much on a project.

If you are building a wicked "sleeper", a mint 1200 at $5000 will save you at least $10000 in project costs.

Mint interior = $2500+
Mint panels/indicators/wiring = $1000+
Mint bumpers = $500+
Mint bodywork = $4000+

Get where I'm coming from...

A ground up "bare metal" rebuild is a false economy in the near short term. In the longterm.. It might pay off after 8-10 years.

Chris

ps. Why does Jono eat shoes???

Oh how right you are.
Apart from some accident damage, my coupe would have to be regarded as an exceptionally good original example, yet i'm still finding things that i want to improve as i go along.

My original plan of spending about $5,000 on a side project while i gathered more stuff for my Dodge has been crushed. The estimate was doubled a while ago & is about to be seriously reviewed upward again. I shudder to think what it would have cost if it was a poor example to start with.
The bodyshell is the most important part of any car that is worth keeping, so thats where the first serious money should go.
To make this car an economic proposition i will need to keep it untill it becomes a part of my deceased estate.

 Re: The Rust bucket.
Yeah i paid 500 for the ute, and its pretty ruff. first thing im gunna do after i drop a stuffed L20b in is sit it up on half 44 gallon drums, get under neath it, fix all the rust and paint it all with body deadner, then hit it with a coat of black paint. put all the suspension in and gear box/tailshaft.
pull the F'd L20b out, paint the top half, then put the motor in get it going then attack the interior.. sound like a plan?

the old boy is paintin it for me, like paying for the paint job etc. he's got a mate who is a car sprayer or somethin so yeah. should be aiight.
the thing im afraid of the most is the cost of the interior. thats whats gunna hit me hard.
ohwell, thats last on the list, it doesnt need to be that flash to be registered any way.. right?
i dont know why jono eats shoes
umm the one thing i need to ask is, where can i get a replacement fuel tank for my 1200 ute? is there any other fuel tanks ( preferably bigger) that go in pretty easy?
thanks.
i'll have some more questions for u'all l8a.

I have an R31 tank under my ute.

You can see the early stages Here.

You can go up another 10mm higher than what I have done though. I have seen 25mm rails x 2 welded to the rails underneath and the rear cross rail notched. You don't need to remove the number plate holder.

I tried to concentrate on the ute but the quality of the brick work kept distracting me. Also why does it say "Jono Eats Shoes" on the wall?
