Hope you like it.
I tried to shape it to the 1200 dimensions visually but as a 1000 replacement using nissan's cube.

The good thing about a small car is that it can be blocky and still have good aerodynamics due to small surface area. The crazy thing is that older 80s mercs have amazing aerodynamics and when I asked my industrial designer friend who works for mazda he said the the angles of the windscreen are one of the main reasons of the overall result. Freaky stuff.

edit: theres a rwd Cube capable 4wd model by disconnecting the front drive

If Nissan can make the limited-edition retro Figaro, why couldn't they make something like this?

The reason Nissan now rarely makes new small vehicles is if you look at their jp site....
Since been taken over by Renault they now rebadge french cars to get them into Japan through the Nissan name.
They have Renault so far up their clak they cant produce anything for the small car segment anymore. Which reminds me I saw the ugly jumbuck ute in the flesh and for 2003 its fug!

OMG!
I myself also saw a jumbuck ute yesterday.
Never seen one in real life until then.
Yeah, noticed the lack of diff between the back wheels as well...
Thought these jumbucks were gonna be RWD?
Anyway, good that they aren't.
Leaves it as Datto country still.

 Re: 1700 ute?
Autoweek reported that a Nissan rep it will be selling the Cube in the US. Officially, they announced plans "introduce an even smaller car [than the Sentra] in 2007" ... will it be the Cube?

... now if only they will make whatever it is rwd vehicle. A ute version would be good, like in D's concept here.

 Re: 1700 ute?
Do you think Nissan should build it as the 1200 replacement using composite fibre panels as in the pontiac fiero (fiero stands for ugly in spanish ) composites have come a very long way since the 80s for mass production and this would also lend to a sss coupe version with a tilt front. Ill rig one up in photoshop when I get back from holidays.

 Re: 1700 ute?
Nice work, but I think it looks like a Mini ute. A retro 1200 would be a bloody good idea. It may be the only reason I would ever buy a new car.
