Re: dimlight Z18 is the one you are thinking of. It's the 1.8 litre version of this enigne with a turbo on it I believe. I don't think that Australia got the z20 over here. But not sure.

Re: dimlight the z20 came in some navaras & some urvans here in oz.a bit agricultural & buzzy.but the z20e is obviously a passenger engine so probably a smoother motor.& a big motor with an auto is sometimes better than a manual, particularly as i seem to remember this is for someone's mother to drive.can do easier burnouts, too.tack it up.

Re: dimlight Spot on! This is the car I'm building for my mother. It is also the engine out of the Chickenhawk.

Re: dimlight Quote: has anyone put a z24 and a turbo in any sunny or other small datto?? Well, the Z20E only clears the hood by about 10-15cm in a 1200. Since the Z24 is nearly 20cm taller, it would be a tough fit in a 1200. I've seen several Z24's in 1600's (510's), even one with a turbo. Maybe if you could find an Excellent hood?

Re: dimlight Who needs a hood?
Seriously, you could cut a hole in the hood/bonnet and put an aftermarket scoop over the hole. In any case, 2 liters ought to be enough to make that automatic a lot faster than your A12 with 4-speed.
I think the 2.5 from the new Sentra and Altima might be the ultimate way to go. It's as light as the CA18DE, but has more CCs than the heavy KA24.

Re: dimlight This car is planned to be all stock on the outside, so no hood scoops allowed. Personally I think it'll be faster than even a 1200 with an A14/5spd. Should surprise more than a few with a stock appearance and 120-130hp+ under the hood.

Re: dimlight What tranny, not sure. But as a replacement for the KA24, perhaps some will be coming. Also, perhaps it uses the same/similar trans to another engine series. Lots of questions for this new powerplant.

Re: dimlight hey Tens, you misspoke, the Z24 is 20 MM taller, not 20 Cm taller, that's a difference of 180 MM. sorry to nit-pick. for those who don't know, the "Z" series motors are basicly the "L" series leaned to the left instead of the right, with a cross flow head. here we got them as Z20, Z22, and Z24. for those who wish, the cylinder heads are interchangeable between the Z and the L series without much work. other than the head , the other thing that needs a change is the timing cover. the Z20, and Z22 use the L20 timing cover. the Z24 is taller and doesn't have an equivilant L series counter part. being as I have never seen one, I can only speculate as to which timing cover the Z18 would use, as the L16, and L18 is shorter than the L20. could someone who has one make a measurement? By the way, I have been told that even though the L series head is a non cross flow design, they flow much better than the Z series heads.
