The car belongs to 'The Boss' at my local service station & it was photographed by DTW when he was at the Bathurst Hillclimb recently.

As for the bumper, why on earth would you want to remove it & leave a funny looking gap where it went?

you just see alot of 1200 track cars without them.would a funny lookn gap really matter when its adding weight to the car?

This car holds the record for its class at Wakefield Park, Huntley Hillclimb & now at the Bathurst Hillclimb, & is driven by some old bloke aged over sixty, so the extra weight of the bumper doesn't seem to be a problem.

Any idea where the flares were sourced from?

Nice and subtle as far as flares go. . .

Dodgeman...some specs on his motor would be good if he was prepared to share. Maybe he'll be up for the supersprint this weekend.
I said it "went well" but maybe "it flew" was a better description. It didn't really look record setting time but I guess that was because he was driving so smoothly up through The Esses. A mate has some video footage of it on several passes. It may not be the most stunning 1200.....but I'd have it in a minute.

Engine specs? I'm sworn to secrecy, so my lips are sealed. [But money talks ]

Oh, all right, if you insist.
It's an A15 with a bore job big enough to bring it very close to 1600cc It uses Mazda pistons, but I don't know what model.

The head is A15 with home grown port job & some larger valves. The cam is an off-the-shelf Wade item, but I don't have the specific cam grind number to hand right now. It idles surprisingly well, so it's not overly agressive.
The rest is basicly standard fare as well. The crank is NOT knife edged, but the sides of the rods are polished & of course it's all balanced. The flywheel is a home machined original & it was balanced along with the rest of it.
The clutch is a combination of parts to allow the use of the Toy, Tyat, Toyt, Arrrgh, I can't bring myself to say it. It's a rival makers gearbox.

The induction is home brewed EFI, simply because there were no bolt on, Weber replacement systems available back then, & the whole thing is tuned up on this beat up old dyno at the back of the workshop. The exhaust is just store bought extractors.

It uses a custom made harmonic balancer & there have been no flywheel-coming-loose problems since it went on, but there had been a couple of these incidents before it was used. The flywheel is not doweled, but simply bolted up as per stock.

The true secret to its performance is in the nut that holds the wheel & I say again, if I had half his driving tallent, I would have good reason to boast.

Woody
The flares are Sigma from memory & the rear ones are on the front. The spoiler is from a Canberra company, the name of which escapes me, but I will try to find out for you. It's a well known supplier of fiberglass stuff.
Does Canberra Auto Styling ring a bell?

Thanks for the link Tyrie. I knew that I got the first & third words right, but obviously not the middle one. Good work.

If I got it right, then the flares are fiberglass items FOR a Sigma, not steel parts cut FROM a Sigma.
I will see if i can get that info too.

He didn't do so well on the Saturday but got the record in his second from last run on the Sunday. He said that he just couldn't get it together on the Saturday, then again, do you think he was just foxin'?

For a home grown job it's pretty impressive Dodgeman. For a 60 year old the driver has a heap of talent too. If only I could steer like him.
