this is a mission. cutting these out of 10mm plate is very time consuming. I have used about 12 cutting disks so far for these manifolds and I'm only halfway through the job.

Man, some people are just spoiled......
I am about 4000km west of sydney which is a shame cos I would like to trade beer for plasma. Do plasma cutters do stainless?

Not really becuase what has happened is that a lot of work has gone to china so only really top end work is being done here.

So they dont really like putting down 100k dies to do other stuff.Oh yeah and it cost $50 an hour anyway.

If it was me I would just cut them with a ban saw then hand finish them.

50 an hour yeah, thats for anything to do with the job, so it wont be 10 bucks itll be more like 300 u have to take into account programming and job setup, this is where it is expensive and time consuming cutting them would take 40 seconds of machining.the money is in the set up.

Nah thats not the case is right kegs.

First you need to get the cad file or drawing then put it in to a machining program then find out what size stock you can get you can't do it with 10mm it needs to be over sized. Then you make a tool path go out to the workshop block out the stock set up the stock then run the tool path and then mill off the extra stock then surface grind it.

Always more work than you think as well.

kybosh...I'm not sure, but wifes tend to use kybosh to stop husbands from having fun.

As for the plasma, it'll cut through anything..I've not used it to cut off any of my fingers yet.

If the material conducts electricity, it'll cut it. It uses a water stream and REALLY high current. Using wooden templates, the cutter is quite easy to use.

 Re: Making flanges
try to find "slimline disks" they are only 1mm thick, they cut much faster and last allmost 3 times longer, if used properly... is all I use for cutting thick stuff....

else find a laser cutter close by.... it's worth the dow....

just imagine all this cutting done by hand...

 Re: Making flanges
is all that stuff yours? I see what look like dcoe adapters.... and lots of other carefully finished bits.

I found the virtues of the skinny cutting disk early on in the project, but I was going to look into getting things plasma cut if there was any interest in a blower kit. Fortunatley there wasn't so its saved me the hassle

helps to use the right tools, i know some people dont have access but ud cut these in no time with a bandsaw....and milling the holes would be simple.

Its cheating to use the right tools.

Backyard, budget upgrades are all about getting a good result through using your noggin, and making do with the tools you have..... welder, drill press, angle grinder, bastard file, large hammer.
