What the finished product looks like.  Note that I now have the callipers towards the front of the car.  All I did was swap the struts and calipers from left to right hand sides.  Kev says this aids with clearing of steering components

hey can you rego a 1200 with this setup or do you need an engineer to sign it off and stress test and xray the bracket to pass rego and all that crap

and wont the whole thing flex when under hard braking because of the extra leverage and stronger caliper

when using the 120y strut are people using the 1200 tops or the 120y top hats?

Re: SILVIA DISC BRAKE CONVERSION 3
just looking at these, there would be about an 8mm increase in track either side would there not(thickness of disc flange bit)

and with stanza struts and what not you get 20mm a side?? but with late ute or 120y balljoints that goes back down to 10mm a side....so near same track by my calculations

so basically, go team big struts

EDIT, if you drilled the top bolt holes out(i thought 120y tops had the same studs) then just get some stanza or sunny tops as they use bigger studs than stock but are the same design top, might have to keep drilling/filing though

Re: SILVIA DISC BRAKE CONVERSION 3
thats it, get the scales out

maybe 35kg heavier if you have my fat arse brakes on there compared to stock 120y brakes....but this is fair as i could probably melt the 120y brakes down as use them as pads in mine

forget the scales

id like to see if your car actually even stops well with your ginormous brakes.

would take some effort to pull up those big front struts and L donk

i dunno about flipping it,

but pulling the rear wheels up when you come to a stop could be pretty cool

Re: SILVIA DISC BRAKE CONVERSION 3
hmmm maybe if i fited some really really wide slicks on the front it might have enough grip

but if i really wanted that i could just ride a bike

maybe you should whack some GTR brakes on the front of yours to get that same stopping experience i get, seems as you have the brackets to fit them and all

i was going to say....do you think the brakes i got today are overkill

i guess i am weighed down by the heavy L series and R31 diff, so i need all the extra stopping power coz my cars so overweight

Re: SILVIA DISC BRAKE CONVERSION 3
hey if you can do it why not!! i just found the Sr sylvia setup to be best for my needs and would be ample for my car. for you guys it might be different. but dam GTR brakes with Nissan emblem and 4 spots would look soo good under a 13- 14inch rim ahahah.

as i meant was.. like most hubs have like a little screw holding the rotor to the hub so the rotor doesnt have any move ment in it..

they're made for 120y struts IIRC

they look good, can you use the same bracket to mount nissan 4pots?

Hey...

wondering wat holds the silvia rotor to the hub??

or does the wheel just hold the rotor on straight??

Re: SILVIA DISC BRAKE CONVERSION 3
hmmm tyrie i was thinking the same thing

people who have done this should be able to go find some 300zx calipers and 280x30mm rotors and have massive brakes

seems as they go straight onto silvias

edit: yes the wheel holds the disc on

Re: SILVIA DISC BRAKE CONVERSION 3
Yes nissan 4 pots share the same caliper bolt spacing, but the disc needs to be drilled to 4 stud, and finding a 114.3 4 stud wheel that clears a caliper that size is very hard. off set are stupid. and really the SR syliva brakes are ample, 4 spots on a 600kg car is abit over kill wouldnt you think? adavnatge is though that U13 bluebird calipers a identical to sylvia in size and caliper bolt spacing but are twin spots, and have a much thicker disc.
