LB310RSU No prefix to indicate that it is a Wagon, Coupe or Van, so the default is that this is a sedan. L= Left drive B310= The basic model R= 2 doors [It's a 2 door sedan] S= ? U= ? [edit U= USA] With that 17 character 'VIN' I'll guess that it is a 1980 or '81 model. OK David, can you fill in the blanks please. I note with interest that the A12 & A12A powered versions of the [L]B310 use the diff code HA38 which is the H150 in 3,889 to 1 [3.9] ratio, while the tag from the Coupe with A15 shows a H37 code which is the H150a in 3.7 to 1 ratio. It's not the change of ratio that interests, but the fact that the 3.889 ratio is the H150 while the 3.7 ratio is the H150a version. I wonder what the difference is between H150 & H150a, & my factory manual, which covers the A15 powered models with the H150a as well as the smaller A12 models with the H150, unfortunately sheds no light on the question.

This tag came from the 2-dr sedan I bought an A12A out of. The wreckers had crushed the top and were surprised I wanted the engine. The rods are now in Bob's race car. Australia Posts: 8287	Re: A12A ID plate The chart in the Wiki is for the B210 model & the position & specific assignment for each character could be different for the B310. I also need another B310 workshop manual. My factory book is for the very late models & I have a tag from an earlier Wagon [WHB310MB] & this late manual has no reference to the H for A14 as this version was not in production at the time of publication. Perhaps a parts book would be better for decoding. The M= Australia is described as being in the last position & I have no idea what the B means, so clearly these codes were somewhat fluid in both time & location. If there was some way to gather them all up & make a complete list, model by model, it would be great.

The easiest way is for everyone to contribute. All the articles in the Encyclopedia can be edited by anyone. Add what you know to the B210 article, the B310 article, or wherever it seems to make most sense. If several people contribute we would have complete information mighty quick.
