I don't know why, but looking at this pic, I think like the 1000 suspension more than the 1200's...

Looking great! Have you replaced all your bushes, etc? Used any/ many rose joints? Ball joints?

Cheers!

by all accounts this front end is superior to a macpherson strut design, for track use at least ...

Hmmm nice! Mine will be like this soon - I have finished collecting bits except for the drag link - did you have it re-manufactured or did you actually get a new one?

Beattie - watch ebay - a NOS pair of upper BJs went for about $35 a couple of weeks ago...

Yeah I got one of the 2 pairs of balljoints off ebay :)

His tierod ends looks alittle different to mine. I know there were 2 types

That would look so much better with disc brakes and coilovers

Disc brakes, ... agreed, but coilovers? Not needed. Carefull prep of the leaf spring & good shocks will be all that is required.

Lowering can also be done in moderation for free & still be completely legal without unsafe modifications to the spring stack or any reduction in suspension travel. It's the headlight height that limits the minimum ride height from a legal perspective.

The B10 family of fine cars, .... perfection achieved.

Re: Datsun 1000 Front suspension parts
The drag links are original. I just cleaned prepared and painted them. The balljoints are all new - I tried everywhere including ebay and this site for months and got nowhere with the uppers till I tried a knowledgeable 19yo guy behind the counter at Repco. Their rare-spare devision has them. The lower bjs are new as well.

The bushes are new. I used datsun 1200 lower control arm bushes on my upper control arms but I had to enlarge to inner hole to about 14mm diamater. I tried several methods to do this as it is F A R harder than it sounds. I froze the bush, inside the old rubber housing, in the freezer then drilled them with a blade bit in an electric drill at maximum rpm. The lower bushes are from a Ford Transit van rear leaf spring shackle, and I reduced the thickenss of the flange on a belt sander.

Cool thanks for the info.

Topgear had his draglink 'reconditioned' by a guy here in Adelaide who can inject some sort of plastic into the join thus stiffening them up.

Not 100% sure how it works but I've got his number when it comes time to do it.

..Actually I need another drag-link. One that's straight preferably...

Excellent info on the bushes!! are the engine mounts custom to suit the later A?

Dattoman 1000
Ian boettcher has the coil over kits available on the 2nd page and also the adjustable rear leaf slider.
I still wouldnt mind coilovers for taller engine setups and allowing a different crossmember or square tubing.

Also the universal "cage support shock mount" is available here

D, the cross member is unmodified, so its to suit an A10 or early A12. We have an A15 in the race car. It has a custom bracket between the cross member and the engine. The rules of our catagory state that the cross member must remain unmodified. It was also possible to move the engine back hard up against the firewall.
