Re: Leaf springs What is now the second leaf is unsupported at the halfway point between the end of the short bottom leaf & the end of the [new] second leaf.
Check the setup on the unmodified spring.
Reputable spring works heat the leaves in a forge from memory as the oxy torch tends to be too hot & too localised. The forge temperature is more readily controlled & it heats the whole thing, thereby relieving local stresses.
They probably heat them in an oven these days for all I know, ... & you know, that proper resetting is really the right way to go.

Re: Leaf springs cant see any way that it wouldnt be safe, over a long period of time it might start to rub through the main leaf but that should take a while
also it will make your rear end softer

Re: Leaf springs yes perfectly safe and can be a very effetive mod. I made spring packs for my car like this. With a bit of trial and error tuning you can end up with quite a sophisticated end result.

Re: Leaf springs thats reassuring, however its a tad to low now, when it squats on aceleration it jambs the exhaust between the diff and body and makes some scary noises

Re: Leaf springs There is nothing dangerous about this. In this original spring pack design - all the weight is focused on one spring regardless. You will find that the suspension changed like this - will be stiffer than reset springs. Reason being that the spring is now held flatter under tension. Reset springs( more comonly reshaped in a hammer press or heat shaped if making new leaves) reseting them flat takes away the stiffness because there is less arc to supply load to. You need to add extra leaves to then supply the lost stiffness. Extra leaves means more unsprung weight and we know thats just terrible isnt it.
Now we all know that this mod is done to lower the vehicle height. So what do we want? Stiffer or close to standard rate springs? Reset and now softer springs that give more travel that we cant use? Or stiffer springs which give more unsprung weight?

Re: Leaf springs the second from bottom leaf is now upside down on the top. Is it safe to be like this?

Re: Leaf springs i see no problem with it, was told(by my boss) that when u get reset properly all they do is heat em with a oxy and bend them to shape using a preset rig. So if its safe to do that i gess theres no problem with this.
