 Re: r31 diff vs h165
good thing i was online, never would have seen that otherwise

i shortened the housing myself and did the mounts, so that cost nothing
cost $110 to have the axle cut down and resplined
just an open centre at the moment, but will be running a ford LSD once i have the money to get one

 Re: r31 diff vs h165
I put 13s on mine, just had to trim the caliper cooling fins by a couple of millimetres. This was with an alloy wheel, a steelie wouldnt fit without lots of work.

got a pic of r31 axle and h165 axle next to each other?

 Re: r31 diff vs h165
no, but have a pic next to a 145 axle
we can pretend its a 165 axle

i can get a pic of the 28 spline next to a h165 axle, just requires me pulling an axle out of the ute diff

 Re: r31 diff vs h165
maybe if we just wrap the 145 axle in tape till its the same size, then it will save the hassle of cutting down a diff

this is for drag/street? i can't imagine you'd want something like that weighing you down at the circuit or autox ...

 Re: r31 diff vs h165
well its almost cheaper to do this and get an LSD than it is to get a h165 LSD, so there's one bonus, and you dont have to worry about collecting diffs to replace broken parts. IMO these benifits outweigh the cost of the extra weight

 Re: r31 diff vs h165
machine the disk down and run different calipers... or just get rid of the disks and go to drums

edit: come to think of it, if you get rid of the handbrake crap (run commodore rear calipers) then 13s should fit

 Re: r31 diff vs h165
you would be surprised... different flange (need the BW flange on the tailshaft and to redrill 2 holes in the diff flange) but length of tailshaft is the same

width is 20mm wider than standard after i cut it down

un cut its 1452mm
cut down both sides, used short axle as the long one and got the long axle cut down 135mm
