Just watch out with the cooling when running these 16V's. They have a tendency to bend and/or crack the head with the slightest sign over overheating. This was more so on the carb fed ones than the injected ones though.

This is true only for the 1.3 through 1.6's, the 2.0's didn't have this problem... I suppose because they never came out with carbs...???

kdg, are you thinking of the CA-series engine? The CG-series only goes up to 1.4 liter.

Hey dd - do you have the same photo/details of the 1300cc motor? I want to use this in my 1200 coupe but must be under 1300cc to be legal.

Plus this seems to have a dizzy and I thought the newer CGA3 1.4 litre has no distributor (has a coil pack)?

Imagine one of these de-stroked to 1200cc and turboed in the under 2 litre class

 Re: CGA3 engine
Hi tt, the "CGA3" probably should have been named "CG14" -- it's basically the same engine as CG13. The cylinder heads bolt between them but are different in some way. It should be nearly the same specs CGA3DE/CG13DE. The CGA3 is all EFI and coil packs, while CG13DE is commonly found with carburetor and distributor.

Anyways, the 80kg spec is for the CGA13DE (57 kg as "long engine w/o flywheel"). Either way it is lighter than an A12 but has Twin-Cam.

 Re: CGA3 engine
Ok - found the info I was after and the CG13DE has a displacement of 1275cc so is legal to use as opposed to the 1348cc later CGA3 model motor.

Yeah Ianey - I am with you on that turbo idea. We were excited (and rightly so) to discuss turboing the A12 and being under 2000cc limit for racing. But this would be a better option it seems!

 Re: CGA3 engine
Do you think the cranks would be interchangable? That way you could use the CGA3 engine with a CG13DE crank and bring it down to under 1300 for rego and have coil packs and injection still.

Do you remember what Harry said the % over that you are allowed was?

Cheers

 Re: CGA3 engine
No idea on the cranks - but worth looking into. I am thinking about NZ regs and I have never heard of allowing a slide factor for cc rating. I know in IPRA it was fairly generous.

My local race track has a long standing 1300cc record that I would like to aim for. Unfortunately it is by a very fast mini so I need a twin cam to have a shot I reckon!

Edit: Quote:
I'm giving away a not very well known fact, but IPRA actually allows a 2% tolerance on the capacity limits for each class, so you can go as far as 2040cc and still run under 2L which works out as a neat 1200cc base engine capacity.
