 Re: dyno
Just another question, where the graph ends, is that where your limiter comes in? Compare your's to mine, It doesn't show the boost, but between 4K and 5K things really start happening very fast, and judging by the gauge, when I have the nerve to watch it, boost is already 8psi by 5k. Strangely this only shows up to 7K, but my limiter comes in at 7.5K.

Thought of another idea, instead of using only a boost controlling/er tap, you also have one that only opens at a certain pressure. I'm at a loss of words to what they are called, but we used to install them on the Serdi head/seat machines. My idea is basically to have one of these before the boost tap, which say only opens at 7.5psi, then the boost tap can control the boost from there onwards. What this will do is to not let the waste gate start opening at all, until right before it should. For this to work, you will need a big/gish waste gate, otherwise you might experience boost spikes, and depending on your state of tune, this might kill your engine.

What do the rest think of this idea?

 Re: dyno
The boost limiter was set at 7 because the mechanic didnt want to do a full power run without the owner there,so the car hasnt even been pushed, it is on a very safe tune

 Re: dyno
that looks like a great linear power curve,
not much dropping off at all,

I'd be happy with that..

 Re: dyno
I'm glad that it's not only my curve that has such a sharp drop of right at the end. I haven't taken the car to any timed events yet, but there is a big one coming up in the town(now declared a city) where I grew up. So I'll be taking it there, and having a bash at it.

Also want to take it for a power run on the dyno beforehand, and possibly push the pressure up t0 1 bar. Every one I speak to says I'm being conservative running it at 0.8, so I'll see what the dyno guy has to say about that...

What turbo are you using mate?

What sort of boost controller?

Thanks Matty

 Re: dyno
Something seems wrong with that boost curve. It must be a massive turbo as it doesn't hit full boost until 7000rpm, it only hits 10psi at 5000rpm.
I'm no expert at it but thats what I think, maybe you could benefit from a smaller turbo?? it should steepen that power curve as well.

ANyway good job.

Cheers
Damo

t3/t4 turbo
no boost controller

reason it isn't hittin full boost til l8 cos i wanted it tuned that way so i didn't get F@#K by fuel on trip back from coast to t'ville...

can be tuned 2 hit boost earlier easily...

If there is no boost controller apart from the original wastegate actuator then it looks like you've got an undersized wastegate with the boost creeping up like that.

This is probably because of your smaller T3 turbine and associated wastegate matched with the t4 type compressor and the relatively small capacity of the engine. The wastegate can't pass enough gas to keep boost down to the rated pressure.

Cars with this type of boost curve are the most fun to ride in with that sling shot feel to the power delivery and boost rises with revs.
