well i could propably, is there gain with the bigger velve on my setup ?, i also bought a golf mk1 insert where you can fit 3 gauges, it replaces the old plastic unit were the gear lever comes out from.the gear box tunnel. Will post pic 2morrow.

Then like mentioned i did talk to a few ppl who knows how to play, and they say : a A15 crank with a 79mm or 78mm bore and a fitting mazda piston... and ya they say it's the best combination for street application

Just got of the phone with Alert Engines, it's about R585 (96.8876 AUD) for a set of pistons. Velves are R340 (56.2788 AUD) for the set. How does the prices compare ?

Where in Centurion? I live around here too, and if you like I can come around some time...

EDIT : Wait, that suzzi looks familiar, didn't I see you go past me in Uitsig turning left into Maraboe? With the fueller on the trailor, numbered 69? I think you are sponsored big time by Media Hydraulics, the same people who made my oil feed pipes...

Well, this was April. I will have to upload the pics after they stole my mags and sound. And its back 3 days now. Well plans is to rebuilt it with a 74mm bore as the stroke is 74mm to get a "square" block and fully rotational balance the sub assembly. take the head for a compression test. and start reassembling it. ^__^ all that i still need is a set of F16 emulsion tubes. Anyways i'l post the pics of my bakkie after the stole most of it :( ... we call it T.I.A ( This is africa)

What engine is it as no A series came with a 74mm stroke.
59, 70, 77, & 82mm strokes, but not 74.

It's a A14.
I think he meant a one size overbore or maybe a second size overbore.
Can't remember what it is that will yield a "square" engine.
Square meaning bore and stroke are the same.

Nissan piston oversizes are in .5mm increments, so two oversizes will bring you up to 73mm, not 74mm, but since no A series Datsun engine came with a 72mm bore, it's all a bit silly really.

The A10, 1200, A12, & '74model A13 has a 73mm bore.
The A12A has a 75mm bore.
The late A13, A14 & A15 have a 76mm bore.

I don't know where you get your specs from but buying a workshop manual sounds like a really good idea as it will have the correct info, & it will stop you from believing all that rubbish that someone must be telling you.

The 73mm pistons, & the three standard oversizes [73.5, 74 & 74.5mm] have a 17.5mm wrist pin.
The 75 & 76mm pistons [& their std oversizes] use a 19mm wrist pin.

To get a 'square' dimention in your A14 you need second oversize pistons [77mm] giving you the 77x77 bore/stroke that you seek for a displacement of 1434cc

The other guys may correct me if I'm wrong, but if it is bored to the second oversize, is'nt it also the largest reliable oversize that he can go?
Meaning, if it gets damaged he will need new sleeves installed or a new engine block.
Is it easy to install new sleeves into a engine?

The second oversize is a paltry 1mm larger & as I wrote in the previous post, Nissan provide three oversizes, which means that there is still one to go. [77.5mm]
It has also been mentioned many many times that the racers bore these a14/15 blocks to 79mm regularly without any problems & 79mm pistons for this purpose are available from a number of places.

As for sleeving an A14 block. If it has bore problems at a miniscule 77mm then it's time to toss the block as it will have serious core shift problems that sleeving wont fix, but if push comes to shove, reputable engine rebuilder shops will have no problem whatsoever installing a sleeve or two.

1200 & A12 blocks have been regularly bored to twice the maximum factory oversize [1.5mm] from 73 out to 76mm since the 1200 was new, & the factory provided competition pistons for them. I bored my own 1200 block to 77.5mm [3,5mm larger than stock] about two decades ago & there are several of these engines around that are running with bore sizes at 77mm [4mm over] so cylinder wall thickness in A series blocks is not normally a problem. [although that would be testing the limits I suspect]

Mate we love you dearly but you gotta be the biggest worry wart on the forum. No wonder your car is so well looked after.

Good one Dodgeman. Well, I tend to not actually worry, but rather prepared if something like the problems I am asking about occurs. In this case I was actually not worried but just curious what can be done to a engine if it has reached it's maximum bore size(if it can be resleaved)

A12GX valves?
Find out what A15 valves go for. They are a little larger and will be a good benefit for your A14 application.
