What's worse, this? or the fact that I didn't notice any significant change in performance because of this?
The good part is the epoxy did hold for over 5 years and 60k miles.

No you wouldnt notice any difference. Its only a dipstick/plunger for the oil (or is there some other reason too?)

This is the Damper rod (not a dashpot).

There is a weight on the end of the rod, its purpose is to dampen the needle movement. So yes I think it would affect performance if missing or broken.

and thats from the English auto industry which usually
