Hey Guys,

Just posting a couple of new photos...... this one shows the SR which now occupies the Engine Bay. This is a dummy motor while I get all the accessories hooked up.

There are two motors on the build, the first will be finished in the enxt week or so. The second motor will be ready by mid October (hopefully )

Engine #1 -
SR20DET
Standard Block, Crank & Rods
N/A Pistons (9.5:1)
Stock head + N/A Camshafts with adjusrable cam gears
Baffled Sump with Wings

Engine #2
SR20DET
Standard Block
Nitrided Crank
Standard Rods
Forged CP Pistons (10.5:1 )
Ported Head with New valve springs
Tomei Poncams
Adjustable Cam Gears
Running on Race Fuel.

Both engines will use the GT2876R Turbo, modified to use external Gate (Tial 38mm)

Shoudl be some fun!

With the race car I rebuild engines each year, and the the FJ was starting to get a little difficult to get parts for - still possible though.

Also, the FJ is quite heavily modified internally - custom pistons etc etc. So if anything went wrong, it was a hassle.

The SR's are all off the shelf parts which makes life much easier. Also, I have done away with the dry sump set-up in order to save weight. In total, I have taken approx 50kg's out of the car.

i was gonna ask the same thing on the FJ. I'm very interested to see how you go with that much compression! good stuff, you still in Improved Prod?

Hey Dude,

Still in Improved Production.

The higher Boost will be a challenge, but the tuner is very clever! It may mean we run a little less boost..... but who cares as long as the car makes the Power in the right place in the rev range.

The goal is to build a torque monster, I am also considering anti-lag to shove more boost in at lower rev ranges while we tail the boost off higher in the rev range to combat the issues with the restrictor.

Will post the results.

Some interesting fact found so far:

SR20 NA rods are same weight as the Turbo rods......But turbo rods are bigger? The scales don't lie - Both 700 grams

SR20 Turbo pistons are wider where the Gudgeon Pin sits..... so to fir the NA pistons to Turbo rods, you need touse the NA gudgeon pins. Also, the Turbo Pistons have a cut out for the oil squirters which needs to be cut out on the NA pistons.

More updates to come........

Hi Dattman, Your car looks neat. Im a bit curious about your 10.5:1 comp ratio, I thought the 2 lts motors made about 20psi boost before the restrictor tapers things off?
Ive had no practical experience with restricted motors but im looking forward to learning with the coupe.
At what RPM did your FJ make peak HP and when did it noticably start falling away.
It might help me get more of an idea on my 1200cc mtr.(9:1)

Thanks, Simon.

Hi simon,

My FJ actually made 22psi at some sections of the track, but it ws very dependant on revs. Peak power was around 5,800rpm and peak was 279rwhp.

One of the guys is making 25psi - but you will need anti-lag to achieve that kind of boost level.

With 10.5:1 (even with jungle juice) we will probably run less boost - time will tell though.

Thanks for the info.
I went through the compression ratio V boost debate with my engine builder. we settled on 9:1, peak boost on 1200cc will probably be in the high 20`s but will run lower than than that while getting the chassis sorted.
I dont think racing unleaded will fit into my budget, would be an interesting dyno session tho.
Good luck with the SR, The weight savings will be a great help too.
Are you going to the nationals? I went last year for a look and im hoping to go to Oran Park this year to give a couple of Vic boys a hand.

I will definately be at the Nationals. The car goes off to the Auto Electrician this weekend for a couple of weeks. Turbo is getting dropped off tomorrow for a rebuild and the tailshaft should be finished early next week.

While the car is at the auto electrician, I will get the engine build finished and have it ready to go straigh into the car when I get it back. By then, it should be ready for a tune

Looking to hit the track late september early october for testing.

I`ll come and find you at Oran Park and say g`day. Probably one of the last opportunities to race there before its gone.. That certainly one of the big incentives for my mates to get up there.
