red marks are early A12 (pre-1974) engine positions
Drain plug is in the same place.
Red crosses are where the A12 bolt holes are

 Re: A14 vs A12 dimension
Am I reading this right where the A12 block is not only shorter in overall height but a tad in length as well? This may explain a few issues that I have had with the SSS.
Cheers
Dave

The engine length is the same. Although there may be two different length water pumpts.

To think Nissan could have raised the deck a tad higher,
used a 86mm stroke crank and had an A16 :)

Hmmm intersting idea. But we have the A10 for an idealized engine. Short stroke = more power? oR so I've heard.

Can someone tell me what is the block thickness of a A14 and A15 engine. Clive, who is struggling to login onto the new site, broke his current A15 block and is looking at a second hand block but needs to check if it has been skimmed before.

 Re: A14 vs A12 dimension
street engines are better as long strokers an 86mm stroke A series would be the beesneez.
My A10 love to rev otherwise it pings at low rpms when pushed.
Over the years street engines have proven the opposite of race engine architecture
eg. street long strokes and low rod stroke ratios, race short strokes and long rods.
1200gxman - just get the A re-sleeved if its just a cracked bore.

Unfortunately I don't know the reason why he wants another A15. Just that apparently he damaged the block, crank, etc.
He got this second hand block but it has been skimmed and he now needs to figure out if a spacer plate is needed or not to prevent detonation and how thick the plate must be.
